Meet thirteen Udall alums who are gearing up for the cross-country biodiesel bus tour. See crew bios

On June 12, thirteen Udall alumni set off on a seven-week, cross-country adventure, promoting public service and the legacy of Arizona Congressman Morris K. Udall. Traveling in a green-certified biodiesel motor coach, they’ll highlight innovative solutions to America’s pressing environmental and Native American issues in more than 30 locations, including cities, Native American communities, national parks and college campuses.

The Udall Legacy Bus Tour was officially launched at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., on June 12. Our kickoff event showcased the Legacy Bus, the Legacy Crew and tour sponsors, and featured a number of distinguished members of Congress, including Senator Bernard Sanders (I-VT) and Representatives Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ), Raśl M. Grijalva (D-AZ), Harry Mitchell (D-AZ), Nick J. Rahall II (D-WV), Mark Udall (D-CO), and Peter Welch (D-VT), as well as Deputy Secretary of the Interior and Udall Foundation Trustee P. Lynn Scarlett. Foundation Chair Terry Bracy emceed the event.

During the tour, the riders will participate in local public service projects planned and implemented by alumni of the Foundation’s scholarship, fellowship and internship programs, such as replanting trees in New Orleans, campground development on the Grand Ronde Reservation in Oregon, and exploring national parks through photography with local youth in Acadia National Park, Maine. The Udall Legacy Tour ends in Tucson, Arizona on August 4, 2007.

The Legacy Bus Tour closes out the Udall Foundation’s yearlong “Celebration of Public Service” marking the 10th anniversary of the Foundation’s education programs.
